Simon Buckingham Shum
Professor Simon Buckingham Shum
Director of Connected Intelligence Centre (CIC) - University of Technology Sydney
Simon Buckingham Shum is Professor of Learning Informatics at the University of Technology Sydney where he was appointed inaugural director of the Connected Intelligence Centre (CIC) in 2014. CIC is a transdisciplinary innovation centre inventing, piloting, evaluating and scaling personalised feedback to students using analytics and AI. Prior to this he was professor at the UK Open University’s Knowledge Media Institute. Simon’s career-long fascination with software’s ability to make thinking visible has seen him active in Human-Computer Interaction, Hypertext, Design Rationale, Semantic Web, Computational Argumentation, Computer-Supported Cooperative Work, Collective Intelligence, Educational Technology, Learning Analytics, and AI in Education. He has helped to establish the field of Learning Analytics where he champions human-centred approaches, also co-founding the Society for Learning Analytics Research. He has helped lead UTS’s response to the emergence of generative AI, and contributed to the 2023 TEQSA report Assessment reform for the age of AI. Simon’s background in Psychology (B.Sc.), Ergonomics (M.Sc.) and Human-Computer Interaction (Ph.D.) always draw his attention to the myriad human factors that determine the effective adoption of new tools for thinking, and the kinds of futures they might create at scale.

Peter is an experienced academic with over twenty-five years teaching and research experience in both the UK and Australia, in the areas of higher education strategy, learning technologies and creative industries management.
Peter is a Trustee of the Association for Learning Technology, which supports the professional and policy development of staff using educational technology. He is an experienced researcher, speaker and advocate specialising in pedagogical change, social media in education, the practices of making, and engagement in education and the creative industries. He co-leads the international Future Happens initiative, which uses innovative approaches to problem-solving and change management to engage the wider higher education sector in debates and research-informed conversations around technology, pedagogy and the future of the modern University. He is the Chair of the editorial Board for the peer reviewed open access journal Reserach in Learning Technology.

Elaine has been designing curriculum and teaching adults for over 20 years and is currently the Academic Director of the Business Co-Design team at the University of Sydney. Elaine leads this multiskilled team of educational developers, learning designers, media producers and research associates, working together with discipline staff, students and industry partners on a large strategic project called Connected Learning at Scale.
Elaine's philosophy of teaching takes a student-centred approach and incorporates active and collaborative learning to improve the student experience. Elaine has a Master of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, a Master of Education (ICT) and her PhD is in Educational Evaluation. Her other research interests include design and development of blended professional development programs for teaching staff as well as the efficacy of different methods of delivery including flipped and the intensive (compressed) modes.

Angela Knox
Angela Knox is a Professor of Work and Organisation and Academic Director of Professional Development. She is an internationally recognized expert in job quality, precarious work, skills and migration. Angie has published widely and her work has appeared in Gender, Work and Organisation, Human Relations, Human Resource Management Journal, Industrial Relations, International Journal of Human Resource Management and Work, Employment and Society. She has also co-edited a book, Job Quality in Australia. She is an Editor of Work, Employment and Society and Editorial Board member of Human Relations. Angie has received in excess of ten teaching awards, including the inaugural Dean's Award for Teaching and she is a Senior Fellow with the Higher Education Academy/ AdvanceHE. She is also an Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Warwick, UK.
Leisa Sargent
Leisa Sargent
Leisa Sargent is Dean of the Business School at the University of Sydney since December 2022. Leisa studied at the University of Toronto and obtained her PhD from the Rotman School of Management. Prior to her appointment at the University of Sydney, Leisa held the position of Senior Deputy Dean at The University of New South Wales (UNSW) Business School (2016-2022). She also held positions as Co-DVC Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (2019-2022), Professor Head of School Management and Marketing, The University of Melbourne (2012-2016) and held several academic program director and University committee roles at the University of Melbourne (2003-2011), Cornell University (2002), and Queensland University of Technology (1991-2001). She has conducted numerous Faculty and academic program reviews and has served on several advisory and governance boards of Australian University bodies, as chair or as a member, including the Centre for Social Impact and UNSW Global. Her research impact roles include expert witness, Senate inquiries, and Government advising. Leisa's research has been published in the leading international journals, including Personnel Psychology, Organization Science, Harvard Business Review, Academy of Management Learning and Education, Journal of Management Education,Journal of Human Resources Management, Journal of Organisational Behavior,Journal of Vocational Behaviour, Journal of Occupational and Organizational Psychology, Work and Stress, Small Group Research and British Journal of Industrial Relations. She has held editorial board memberships including the Journal of Management Studies and Human Relations. Leisa has consulted to large complex organisations both in Australia and North America, including companies such as Nortel, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority, Telstra, Incitec, Canada Life, Comcare, Arnott's, and the Royal Children's Hospital, Melbourne. She is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors. A nationally awarded educator, Leisa was named the Pearson Australia and New Zealand Academy of Management innovative educator of the year. Leisa's current research spans an evidence-based approach to leadership development, new perspectives on retirement, workday design, restorative experiences, and green infrastructure. Her research has been competitively funded through the Australian Research Council grants, Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada, The Australian Learning and Teaching Council, The Academy of Management and Hort Innovation Australia.
Joanne Wright

BA (Joint Hons) Kent, MLitt Aberdeen, PhD ANU Professor Wright is responsible for the University’s strategy around teaching, learning and students’ educational experience. She oversees institution-wide development of better support for student learning and the student experience, including our approach to student support, curriculum renewal, new thinking in pedagogy, learning and teaching analytics, face-to-face, online and blended learning, and quality assurance. Prior to joining the University of Sydney, Professor Wright was Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) for the University of Queensland (UQ). She previously held senior level academic leadership roles for many years, starting with her position as Dean of the Faculty of History and Social Sciences at Royal Holloway University of London in 2002. Professor Wright has held responsibility for teaching and learning portfolios at the University of Sussex and the University of South Australia where she also held the appointment of Acting Vice-Chancellor for a period, before moving to UQ in 2013. She was at the forefront of UQ’s work on blended learning and curriculum reform and led the University’s teaching and learning response to the global pandemic. Professor Wright has well-established relationships in the higher education sector, serving as a member of several national advisory bodies and working groups through Universities Australia and the Group of Eight (Go8).

Dimitria’s research, teaching, leadership and advocacy work focuses on Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) from a macro, meso and micro level perspective, with a particular focus on ethno-racial diversity. As the Academic Director of the Science in Australia Gender Equity Program (SAGE), she plays a critical role in leading the University’s DEI agenda. Since 2023 the SAGE agenda has broadened, going beyond STEMM to take a whole of university approach, while also including students and staff and embracing a gender intersectional lens to data collection, awareness raising and policy development.

Director – Pymble Institute, Pymble Ladies’ College
Over her teaching career, Sarah has been a social educator for adults with disability, a secondary school teacher, wellbeing leader, school executive leader, and a casual academic in Education at a number of universities. She is the founding Director of the Pymble Institute at Pymble Ladies’ College which is the school’s hub of research-related activities. She works with students, staff and alumni, along with academics and partners from external organisations, to create opportunities for research. The Pymble Institute is committed to increasing women’s and girls’ voices and presence in research, especially through developing and undertaking research which can influence and improve initiatives in and for girls’ education worldwide. Sarah gained her PhD in Education with a thesis examining ways young adolescent girls select school subjects and plan for their futures. Her research and current work spans creative ways of writing and researching in the field of Education. At Pymble, she teaches Religion and Ethics, and Big History, where she loves helping her students develop a passion for scholarship. She leads the College’s Social Intelligence strategic pillar and is responsible for the College Libraries, Archives, Social Impact and Careers programs.

She has extensive experience teaching and designing units across universities in New South Wales, and helping students to understand academic communication principles.

Before his academic career, Max worked as an accountant and auditor for PwC and Macquarie Bank. Max’s research focuses on corporate social responsibility, prison reform, and Big Data. Max has published extensively in top-tier academic journals and serves on the editorial board of Accounting, Auditing and Accountability Journal, Critical Perspectives on Accounting and Accounting and Business Research and is an Associate Editor of ABACUS. As an active commentator on prison policy reform, Max is often asked to provide expert testimony and submissions to relevant government inquiries. In 2022, Max won an ARC discovery grant to study the data breach disclosure rules and practices in Australian companies.

Sandra Barker is a Senior Lecturer in Management at UniSA Business. Sandy is involved in teaching and curriculum development for undergraduate students. Holding a PhD (Business), Graduate Diploma in Education Studies (Digital Learning), Graduate Certificate in Education (University Teaching), and a Bachelor of Applied Science (Chemistry), in early 2021 Sandy was awarded Senior Fellowship with Advance HE (SFHEA). Her PhD investigated the management of end-user computing and end-user development of small-scale information systems. In education, Sandy has a research interests in authentic assessment, feedback and experiential learning with a focus on work placements, graduate qualities/enterprise skills, learning analytics, business simulations and role play. All courses that she teaches have an experiential component to ensure students are ready for the professional world as soon as they graduate.

Dr Alison Casey is a Senior Lecturer in Educational Development with the Business Co-Design team at the University of Sydney and has enormous enthusiasm for and extensive experience in teaching in all its forms. She currently leads co-design projects with Business School academics to provide students with better learning experiences. Originally a scientist, she has developed and taught curriculum in both quantitative and qualitative subjects. Her expertise is in active learning pedagogies, students as partners practice, digital affordances, and authentic assessment.

Praveena is an Associate Lecturer of Dalyell Program. Praveena has around 10 years of combined experience in the areas of advanced materials and their characterisation technology transfer, technology evaluation, patent landscaping and techno-market mapping in the corporate sector as well as academic research experience. She was instrumental in the creation of IndiaNano (Maharashtra, India), the technology platform focused on bringing together academia and the corporate world in nanotechnology. Praveena received her MS in chemical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts and her PhD from the University of Sydney. Her core research interest is around innovations and addresses questions of how innovations take place, their assessment and their predictability.

She has experience in developing and implementing learning resources and is skilled in using various educational technologies to enhance learning experiences. Tianya is passionate about creating engaging, learner-centred environments and is committed to supporting strategic planning goals in VC Challenge to uplift student experiences through assessment redesign and innovative class delivery under the Universal Design for Learning (UDL) approach.

Dr Raffaele F Ciriello serves as a Lecturer in Business Information Systems at the University of Sydney Business School since 2020. He studies digital innovation, blockchain governance, and IS development using qualitative methods and dialectical inquiry. His writings appear regularly in renowned journals and conferences, such as EJIS, I&M, IJIM, BISE, ICIS, and ICSE. Raffaele engaged with software firms, music platforms, startups, NGOs, banks, and IT consulting houses for research and teaching. Before joining Sydney, Raffaele served as Assistant Professor at IT University of Copenhagen (Denmark) and earned a PhD from University of Zurich (Switzerland). He was recognized as a Distinguished Member of the AIS in 2021, as an Outstanding Associate Editor at ECIS2022, ICIS2021 and ICIS2019, and he received the ITU Award for Teaching Excellence 2018.

Prior to joining academia Janine worked as an auditor in a big four accounting firm and for several leading Australian and Global organisations including those in the Telecommunications, Television, Oil & Gas and Banking industries. Janine is a Fellow of Advance HE (FHEA) and an award-winning educator; she is the recipient of the Wayne Lonergan Outstanding Teaching Award, the Toolbox & Innovator Award and the Academic Enhancement of Student Life Award in recognition of her dedication to supporting and enhancing the student learning experience.

Roisin is Head of School of Management, People and Organisations in the Faculty of Business, Technological University Dublin since 2021. Prior she was Head of Learning Development and Sectoral Project Manager in the National Forum for the Enhancement of Teaching and Learning in Irish higher education. She has worked in HE since 1992 first as a lecturer and Research Fellow in Computing and Information Systems in the Northern Ireland Knowledge Engineering Laboratory (Ulster University) and subsequently in Australia (University of New South Wales). She is a Fellow of both the UK Higher Education Academy and SEDA, and founder and co-editor of the Irish Journal of Academic Practice.

Dr Paul Finn is a Lecturer with the Discipline of Strategy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the University of Sydney. In his current role, Paul is developing and coordinating the first cross-faculty Innovation and Entrepreneurship Major/Minor which spans five other faculties in the university as well as multiple disciplines in the Business School. Additionally, Paul is coordinating Entrepreneurship at Masters-level and the new Introduction to Strategy, Innovation and Management unit as part of the Strategy, Innovation and Management specialisation in the Master of Commerce. Paul is also an experienced lecturer in Strategy and Change Management.
Paul gained his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the disciplines of Organisation Studies and Entrepreneurship from the University of Melbourne. His research interests include organisational creativity, entrepreneurship, power, and advanced qualitative research methods. Outside of academia, Paul has held roles in management consulting and management positions in logistics and services.

Joseph is currently Head of the Strategy & Leadership Discipline in TU Dublin. His current research interest is in Strategy formulation and Case Study pedagogy. Joe has presented research papers at numerous international conferences, including the International Pragmatics conference 2017, the Interpretative Policy Analysis conference 2021, and the Society for the Advancement of Socio-Economics 2021. He has also published in the Journal of Multicultural Discourses, Irish Economic and Social History, and the Global Business Review.

Dr Foley is a Senior Lecturer in Work and Organisational Studies and the Academic Director of Equity Diversity and Inclusion at the University of Sydney Business School. Her research focuses on the gendered dimensions of workplace technological change, the role of managers in progression workplace gender equality initiatives, and how to build a more gender equitable future of work. Meraiah’s reputation as an outstanding educator is recognised nationally, as she has received an Australian Awards for University Teaching (AAUT) Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning, and also multiple University of Sydney and Business School teaching awards and nominations.

Dr Corinna Galliano is an Associate Lecturer at the University of Sydney Business School. Corinna has been key in creating the award winning Leadership in a Post-Crisis (LPC) program through unit and workshop development, content creation and coordination and facilitation. In 2019 Corinna Galliano completed a PhD at the University of Sydney Business School in the discipline of Strategy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Corinna combines her scholarship and her passion for teaching to deliver impactful and innovative teaching that integrates theory and practice, co-designs with industry practitioners and utilises reflective processes. Corinna's research sheds insights on managing the competing demands of leading and working in highly dynamic contexts, including start-ups, innovation teams and large organisations undergoing change and transformation.

Craig Gilliver is the Academic Lead for Leading in a Post Crisis World. His background is in literature and he has a graduate in communications with a major in journalism. He is interested in narrative. He has experience in government and tertiary education as well as arts festivals and the not for profit sector.  He has skills in teaching and arts programming as well as corporate communications, publicity, live events and entertainment logistics. He had taught and lectured at a tertiary level and has broad experience working with senior leaders in the Arts sector, both in Australia and overseas.

Lynn Gribble (she/her) is nationally and internationally recognised for her thought leadership in AI teaching and learning and digital innovation practices, which have won multiple awards. With community at heart, she created and co-leads the AI Community of Practice to disseminate, collaborate and advocate the use of AI in education practices at UNSW. An early adopter, adapter and authoritative voice in AI, she led the terms of reference responses for the Australasian Academic Integrity Network's submission to Parliament on the impacts of Artificial Intelligence in Education (2023) and also presented evidence to the Parliamentary enquiry of the same. She has published several chapters on designing teaching and assessment in the face of rapidly developing Artificial Intelligence, published in multiple Q1 journals, and invited to present internationally. With digital in her blood, her early involvement in online learning saw her co-lead the largest Community of Practice (Digital Online Learning and Innovation 2020- 2023) and pioneered voice feedback (2011) and the use of technology in grading and feedback (from 2014). As an Education Focused Fellow (2020 – 2022) she has co-led investigations into university wide feedback and assessment practices resulting in education resources for academic development ultimately to enhance the student experience.

Dr Eve Guerry is Academic Engagement Curator at the Chau Chak Wing Museum. She is a museum educator with deep experience designing Object-Based Learning strategies for curriculum-linked learning programs and interdisciplinary engagement. With an academic background in Egyptology and archaeology, Eve has expertise in utilising collections to create immersive and impactful approaches to learning and teaching.

Rachael Hains-Wesson is an Associate Professor and Academic Director Work-Integrated Learning at the University of Sydney Business School. She holds a Master’s in Creative Writing from the University of Melbourne, a Ph.D. from the University of Western Australia, and a Ph.D. in Education from Deakin University. Rachael is a renowned leader in higher education in Work-Integrated Learning, curriculum design and teacher scholarship. Rachael has received top teaching awards, such as the prestigious international QS Education Innovation award (2020), an Australian National Citation for Outstanding Contribution to Student Learning (AAUT, 2021) and numerous Vice-Chancellor Awards for Outstanding Teaching. She holds a Queen Elizabeth 11 Silver Jubilee Trust Award for Young Australians and a Myer Foundation Award for her social-impact work with young people. Rachael’s media, journal articles, book chapters as well as her plays and books (over +100 publications) are published in reputable outlets, nationally and internationally.

As the University of Sydney Business School Principles of Responsible Management Education (PRME) project officer, Maria collaborates with academics and professional staff in designing, implementing, and evaluating projects that integrate responsible management education across the business school curricula. Maria's academic passion for education for sustainable development and the ways it translates in multilateral organisations, and educational settings has been the focus of her interest and doctoral-level research. This knowledge, combined with a deep understanding of the curriculum cycle, allows her to find practical ways to improve curriculum design for impactful leadership. Maria has a Bachelor's in Social Anthropology (UNAM), a Master's in Sustainable Development (Macquarie University), and a Graduate Certificate in Educational Design (Monash University).

Dr Steven Hitchcock is a lecturer of Work-Integrated Learning at the University of Sydney Business School. He has particular interest in experiential learning design, authentic assessment, and student experience in higher education (https://orcid.org/0000-0001-7130-7438). Steven's primary stream of research focusses on engagement in higher education. Steven has an interest in processes of unit development via the likes of innovative teaching practice, and narrative-based instruction. Steven has extensive experience in teaching having taught both large and small courses across all levels of higher education.

He (Fred) Huang joined the University of Sydney Business School in 2021. He obtained his Doctor of Philosophy, Master of Philosophy and Master of Commerce (Quantitative Finance and Banking) from the University of Sydney, and his Bachelor of Commerce and Administration (Accounting and Finance) from the Victoria University of Wellington. He is a Fellow of Advance HE (FHEA) and has been a recipient of the FFT/USS Award across multiple subjects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. His research interests include corporate finance, financial regulation, and credit ratings, and his academic articles have been published in A* journals in accounting and finance.

With more than 15 years of award-winning experience in leading organisational communication in business, Dr Maria Ishkova is an education-focused academic in the discipline of Work and Organisational Studies, USBS. Maria coordinates undergraduate and postgraduate units of study and runs masterclasses on organisational communication for students and professional staff. Her innovative, industry-oriented while personalised approach to educational practice were acknowledged with the most prestigious USYD teaching awards, including Dean's Award for Teaching (2022), Academic Enhancement of Student Life Award (2022), SRES Inaugural Award "Relationship-rich Education" (2021), Vice Chancellor's Award for the Outstanding Teaching (2020, team), Wayne Lonergan Award (2019, team).

George is a Lecturer (Education-Focused) in the Discipline of Finance at the University of Sydney. He has been a passionate educator to both undergraduate and postgraduate students since 2014. George’s primary research interests encompass the banking sector and the market microstructure of the over-the-counter (OTC) financial markets. George was recently awarded a Fellowship (FHEA) under the Sydney Educational Fellowship Program, and is an alumnus of the University of Sydney, graduating with First Class Honours in 2012 and his PhD in 2018.

Patrick is Head of Organisation Studies in the School of Management, People and Organisations in Technological University Dublin where he is responsible for the management of the BSc Business & Management and BSc Business & Law programmes. He teaches strategic management on the Executive MBA programme and has a particular interest in teaching with case studies and online simulations. He is a graduate of University College Dublin and the University of Stirling and his research interests are in the broad area of marketing regulation and social/public health marketing, particularly in the context of the alcohol industry.

His work in developing teaching approaches to help develop students’ skills and career readiness was recognised in 2023, receiving the University of Sydney Business School Toolbox and Innovators Award and the University of Sydney Educational Innovation Award. His teaching has also been recognised with the University of Sydney FFT Award for Teaching in 2022 and 2023. Ben’s research interests include innovation in accounting education and corporate governance.

Henry Leung worked as a senior analyst at BT Financial Group, Deutsche Bank and Commonwealth Securities before joining the University. In the process, he has gained extensive knowledge and practical experience in the engineering of large scale trading and dealing systems covering foreign exchange, equities, fixed income and derivatives products. He graduated from the University with first class honours in Electrical Engineering and Commerce (major in finance and economics) and successively completed a Masters of Business in Finance at the University of Technology, Sydney. In finance, Danilo's research predominantly focuses on financial crises and the impact of government intervention in financial markets; in education, Danilo has been studying the role of machine learning in the provision of efficient feedback and the use of mind maps in online learning. Previously Louise worked in professional accounting and commercial roles including an accounting technical manager in the banking industry. Louise is a Fellow of Advance HE, a member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) and has co-authored several corporate reporting textbooks and publications for CA ANZ. In recognition of Louise's interest in developing resources to enhance student readiness for the business world, Louise was the recipient of a 2021 Dean's award for FFT and a 2020 Dean's Award for Teaching.

Dr. Hamish Malloch commenced as a lecturer at the University of Sydney in 2009 and received his PhD from the same institution in 2011. Hamish's PhD involved the valuation of exotic options called "passport options" and this work has subsequently been published in the high quality international journal Quantitative Finance. Hamish's research interests lie in the field of mathematical/quantitative finance. Specifically, he is interested in theoretical models of derivative valuation and asset allocation and the empirical application of such models.

Associate Professor Ranjit Voola is a nationally awarded researcher and educator. His scholarship at the intersection of marketing and the UN Sustainable Development Goals is groundbreaking and has been published in leading marketing journals such as Industrial Marketing Management. In 2022, his paper on food well-being and poverty won the best paper award from the Australasian Marketing Journal. He has been published in leading journals such as the Journal of Product Innovation and Management, the European Journal of Marketing, and the Journal of Public Policy and Marketing. In 2023, Ranjit was awarded the prestigious Distinguished Marketing Educator of the Year from the Australia New Zealand Marketing Academy(ANZMAC) for using his ‘platform as a marketing educator to make the world a better place’ and championing the UN SDGs and the PRME principles. He previously won the ANZMAC Emerging Marketing Educator of the Year award. He is currently leading a special issue in the premier marketing education journal, Journal of Marketing Education, relating to embedding SDGs in Marketing Education. He has also published in the Journal of Marketing Education and the Journal of Management Education.
