Professor of Education

As a Professor of Education and Director of the Centre for Academic Development at Durham University, Nicola leads research on game-based learning and digital play in education. She also contributes to the development of digital education initiatives and strategies at the university.

Nicola is widely recognized for her contributions to the field of game-based learning and has published numerous articles and books on the topic. Her books include "Play and Learning in Adulthood", "Digital Games and Learning" and "Learning with Digital Games: A Practical Guide to Engaging Students in Higher Education."

Peter is an experienced academic with over twenty-five years teaching and research experience in both the UK and Australia, in the areas of higher education strategy, learning technologies and creative industries management.
Peter is a Trustee of the Association for Learning Technology, which supports the professional and policy development of staff using educational technology. He is an experienced researcher, speaker and advocate specialising in pedagogical change, social media in education, the practices of making, and engagement in education and the creative industries. He co-leads the international Future Happens initiative, which uses innovative approaches to problem-solving and change management to engage the wider higher education sector in debates and research-informed conversations around technology, pedagogy and the future of the modern University. He is the Chair of the editorial Board for the peer reviewed open access journal Reserach in Learning Technology.

Elaine Huber
Elaine has been designing curriculum and teaching adults for over 20 years and is currently the Academic Director of the Business Co-Design team at the University of Sydney. Elaine leads this multiskilled team of educational developers, learning designers, media producers and research associates, working together with discipline staff, students and industry partners on a large strategic project called Connected Learning at Scale.
Elaine's philosophy of teaching takes a student-centred approach and incorporates active and collaborative learning to improve the student experience. Elaine has a Master of Electronic and Electrical Engineering, a Master of Education (ICT) and her PhD is in Educational Evaluation. Her other research interests include design and development of blended professional development programs for teaching staff as well as the efficacy of different methods of delivery including flipped and the intensive (compressed) modes.

Angela Knox
Angela Knox is a Professor of Work and Organisation and Academic Director of Professional Development. She is an internationally recognized expert in job quality, precarious work, skills and migration. Angie has published widely and her work has appeared in Gender, Work and Organisation, Human Relations, Human Resource Management Journal, Industrial Relations, International Journal of Human Resource Management and Work, Employment and Society. She has also co-edited a book, Job Quality in Australia. She is an Editor of Work, Employment and Society and Editorial Board member of Human Relations. Angie has received in excess of ten teaching awards, including the inaugural Dean's Award for Teaching and she is a Senior Fellow with the Higher Education Academy/ AdvanceHE. She is also an Honorary Associate Professor at the University of Warwick, UK.

Dr. Sebastian Boell is educator at the University of Sydney Business School. He consecutively innovates his teaching practice introducing novel aspects to his teaching. Currently is works on projects with industry partners in the introductory unit for students with the business information systems specialisation for the master of commerce (5000 level unit). He also works with colleagues on a portfolio approach to support graduates in the job market. Sebastian received several awards for his teaching.

Roel is a researcher, learning designer, and educator working in the Discipline of Accounting. His research focuses on non-governmental organisation (NGO) accountability, impact measurement, and disruption in the audit profession. Roel's teaching experience includes courses in Financial Accounting, Sustainability Accounting, Accountability & Ethics, and Qualitative Research Methods. His learning design work focuses on interactive online lectures and the development of authentic assessment using business cases and business simulation games. Roel has previously worked for the University of Amsterdam and is an affiliated researcher of the Mistra Center for Sustainable Markets (Misum) of the Stockholm School of Economics.

Justin joined UQ Business School in 2020, after teaching at the Lazaridis School of Business and Economics at Wilfrid Laurier University, Canada. His teaching is focused on Organisational Behaviour, Research Methods, and Leadership. Justin earned his Honours Bachelor of Science with a double degree in Psychology and Cognitive Science & Artificial Intelligence at the University of Toronto, Canada, and his Masters and PhD in Industrial/Organizational Psychology at the University of Waterloo, Canada.

Dr Alison Casey is Lecturer in Educational Development with the Business Co-Design team and has enormous enthusiasm for, and extensive experience in, teaching in all its forms. Originally a scientist, she was involved in developing the science teaching components of the Bachelor of Primary Education and the Masters of Secondary Education at the University of Notre Dame before working in the centralised Learning and Teaching office at Notre Dame as a learning technologies developer, leading peer review of teaching and academic integrity research projects.

Dr Raffaele F Ciriello serves as a Lecturer in Business Information Systems at the University of Sydney Business School since 2020. He studies digital innovation, blockchain governance, and IS development using qualitative methods and dialectical inquiry. His writings appear regularly in renowned journals and conferences, such as EJIS, I&M, IJIM, BISE, ICIS, and ICSE. Raffaele engaged with software firms, music platforms, startups, NGOs, banks, and IT consulting houses for research and teaching. Before joining Sydney, Raffaele served as Assistant Professor at IT University of Copenhagen (Denmark) and earned a PhD from University of Zurich (Switzerland). He was recognized as a Distinguished Member of the AIS in 2021, as an Outstanding Associate Editor at ECIS2022, ICIS2021 and ICIS2019, and he received the ITU Award for Teaching Excellence 2018.

Prior to joining academia Janine worked as an auditor in a big four accounting firm and for several leading Australian and Global organisations including those in the Telecommunications, Television, Oil & Gas and Banking industries. Janine is a Fellow of Advance HE (FHEA) and an award-winning educator; she is the recipient of the Wayne Lonergan Outstanding Teaching Award, the Toolbox & Innovator Award and the Academic Enhancement of Student Life Award in recognition of her dedication to supporting and enhancing the student learning experience.

Dr Wei Cui commenced as a lecturer of finance at the University of Sydney in 2019. He received his PhD in Finance from the University of Sydney and he holds a Master of Economics and a Bachelor of Economics from Ocean University of China. His research interests are in the broad area of asset pricing with a special focus on modelling hedge fund returns. Before he joined the University of Sydney, Wei has served at a number of reputable universities in Australia with a teaching focus on corporate finance and financial accounting.

Alain de Sales has worked or consulted to a diverse set of organizations like Department of Prime Minister and Cabinet, Australia; Mars, UK; and was Head of Digital for the consultancy a division of Sensis, Australia. Currently, Alain is a Leadership and Followership lecturer at University of Queensland's Business School. He has finished a PhD researching: Breaking Toxic Triangles: How Courageous Followers stand up to Destructive Leadership. He also has a completed BSc (1st Class Hons), MBA, MBIT and a Graduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching. He founded and currently chairs the Teaching Followers Courage Coordinating Council.

Tanya Fiedler is an accountant interested in interdisciplinary approaches to measuring and delivering sustainable outcomes. With a particular focus on climate change, her research is guided by the belief that the grand environmental and social challenges of the 21st century can only be addressed through deep engagement between the physical and social sciences, industry and society. Tanya has published in leading interdisciplinary journals, including Nature Climate Change and Environmental Research: Climate, and is regularly invited to speak and advise government, regulators, the finance sector and industry more broadly on topics relating to climate risk assessment, management and disclosure.

Dr Paul Finn is a Lecturer with the Discipline of Strategy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship at the University of Sydney. In his current role, Paul is developing and coordinating the first cross-faculty Innovation and Entrepreneurship Major/Minor which spans five other faculties in the university as well as multiple disciplines in the Business School. Additionally, Paul is coordinating Entrepreneurship at Masters-level and the new Introduction to Strategy, Innovation and Management unit as part of the Strategy, Innovation and Management specialisation in the Master of Commerce. Paul is also an experienced lecturer in Strategy and Change Management.
Paul gained his Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in the disciplines of Organisation Studies and Entrepreneurship from the University of Melbourne. His research interests include organisational creativity, entrepreneurship, power, and advanced qualitative research methods. Outside of academia, Paul has held roles in management consulting and management positions in logistics and services.

Dr Corinna Galliano is an Associate Lecturer at the University of Sydney Business School. Corinna has been key in creating the award winning Leadership in a Post-Crisis (LPC) program through unit and workshop development, content creation and coordination and facilitation. In 2019 Corinna Galliano completed a PhD at the University of Sydney Business School in the discipline of Strategy, Innovation and Entrepreneurship. Corinna combines her scholarship and her passion for teaching to deliver impactful and innovative teaching that integrates theory and practice, co-designs with industry practitioners and utilises reflective processes. Corinna's research sheds insights on managing the competing demands of leading and working in highly dynamic contexts, including start-ups, innovation teams and large organisations undergoing change and transformation.

Craig Gilliver is the Academic Lead for Leading in a Post Crisis World. His background is in literature and he has a graduate in communications with a major in journalism. He is interested in narrative. He has experience in government and tertiary education as well as arts festivals and the not for profit sector.  He has skills in teaching and arts programming as well as corporate communications, publicity, live events and entertainment logistics. He had taught and lectured at a tertiary level and has broad experience working with senior leaders in the Arts sector, both in Australia and overseas.

Dr Paul Ginns is Associate Professor in Educational Psychology in the Sydney School of Education and Social Work at The University of Sydney. He has worked with both Australian and international colleagues on a wide variety of educational research projects. He uses a range of research designs (e.g., experimental and survey-based research) and analytic methods (e.g., General Linear Models for experimental and non-experimental designs, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, structural modelling, meta-analysis) to investigate research questions based on cognitive architecture, embodiment, motivation and engagement.

Gaia Grant is a lecturer at the University of Sydney Business School in the Work-Integrated Learning Hub. With a strong background as a learning designer, facilitator and business consultant, Gaia has developed a wide range of strategies to help develop solutions to wicked challenges. In her research Gaia has focused on exploring how to develop individual innovative problem-solving skills, leadership approaches and workplace cultures. Gaia's research has been presented in a range of academic conferences including the European Group of Organisation Studies (EGOS) and the Process Symposium (PROS), along with Research in Work and Learning (RWL) in Canada, and has been published in the Academy of Management (AOM) Proceedings.

Associate Professor Lynn Gribble is an Education Focused academic in the School of Management and Governance at The University of New South Wales Sydney. Awarded an AAUT citation for her leadership and impact as a digital innovator, she has taught management to large classes of Master of Business Administration and Master of Commerce students for 15+ years and has pioneered the use of voice recordings, audience response platforms and learning analytics to personalise every interaction with her students, increasing both their engagement and learning outcomes. Lynn co-leads Communities of Practice in Online Learning and Innovation, and the 4Cs (A Strategic Approach to Impact) and is Senior Fellow of the Advance HE UK.

Rachael Hains-Wesson is an Associate Professor and Director of the Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) Hub at the University of Sydney Business School. She is responsible for leading the scope and expansion of the School's Work-Integrated Learning strategy and offerings. Rachael is a Queen Elizabeth II Silver Jubilee Trust for Young Australians, a University of Western Australia Convocation and Teacher Excellence Awardee. Rachael has received a QS Reimagine Education Team Award (2020) and an Australian Award for University Teaching (AAUT, Team Award, 2021). Oliver is a PhD Candidate within The Business School, currently conducting research on the responsible use of artificial intelligence and algorithmic decision-making. He is a very passionate teacher, and loves making a positive impact on his community through teaching, whether it is as a tutor across three different disciplines in The Business School, or even coaching martial arts and fitness. He also works as part of Business Co-Design (BCD) assisting Lecturers with their units of study. Whilst teaching at The University of Sydney, Oliver has received awards like the Dean's Citation for Tutoring in 2021 and been recognised as an Associate Fellow with the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) in 2022.

Dr Steven Hitchcock is a lecturer of Work-Integrated Learning at the University of Sydney Business School. Dirk S. Hovorka is Professor of Systems and Design in the BIS Discipline. His research focuses on speculative approaches to 'knowing' and how scientific and societal practices bring forth unprecedented 'worlds' through their theory, design, and expectations of the future. Committed to preparing students for engaging the challenges of future(s) they are entering, Dirk is honoured as the 2018 Beta Gamma Sigma Professor of the Year and recognised by the Wayne Lonergan Award for Outstanding Teaching. Dirk co-authored the AIS 2011 Best Paper on "Secondary Design," is a JAIS Senior Editor and track chair for prestigious IS conferences.

Maria coordinates undergraduate and postgraduate units of study and runs masterclasses on organisational communication for students and professional staff. Her innovative, industry-oriented while personalised approach to educational practice were acknowledged with the most prestigious USYD teaching awards, including Dean's Award for Teaching (2022), Academic Enhancement of Student Life Award (2022), SRES Inaugural Award "Relationship-rich Education" (2021), Vice Chancellor's Award for the Outstanding Teaching (2020, team), Wayne Lonergan Award (2019, team).

Researching, publishing and teaching business and international management for over a decade, Jane's expertise encompasses China, business in Asia, organisational career management, cross-cultural and generation differences within organisations, and supporting first year undergraduate students transition to university. In addition to her award-winning teaching career, Jane's experience includes establishing research and engagement at University of Melbourne's Asialink Business, as well as collaborating with industry, government and NGOs such as AusTrade, PwC, Allianz and the Diversity Council of Australia.

Laura Kotevska is a lecturer at the University of Sydney appointed in the Education Portfolio in the Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor. At the University of Sydney, Laura teaches Industry and Community Project Units. Her research is in the history of education, particularly approaches to teaching ethics and epistemology. She has an emerging research interest in the personal traits necessary for successful inquiry. She has written about her teaching experiences for Teaching@Sydney and the ABC.

Anthony is a PhD candidate within the Discipline of Accounting and an Associate lecturer in the University of Sydney Business School. He is a keen teacher and has received a number of Dean's citations for teaching excellence. Anthony has experience in developing lecture materials, assessments and incorporating interactive learning technologies to maximise the student experience, across a number of senior masters level and capstone units. His research interests explore how accounting animates both organisational and social lives, with particular focus on digital platforms and novel technologies.

Ingrid Larkin is an educator and researcher in business, with special interest in work integrated learning. Ingrid has been recognised as a Fellow and National President's Award recipient of the Public Relations Institute of Australia. Ingrid has also received individual and team recognition through Vice-Chancellor's Awards for Excellence and Performance Awards. Prior to joining QUT Business School in 2004, Ingrid was a senior public relations and communication professional in both corporate and consulting roles for clients across Australia and internationally. Ingrid maintains strong connections across industry and education, which is reflected in her research and her leadership of work integrated learning across QUT Business School.

Benjamin teaches in multiple financial accounting units of study and has also assisted in their development, including through participation in education research projects. He was awarded the FFT Award for Teaching in 2022. Benjamin's research interests include corporate governance and corporate tax reporting.

Ching has three career transitions, from being a Graphic Designer (over 10 years experience) to a Business/Graphic Trainer (over 5 years), and for over the last 10 years as a Senior/Learning Designer in the sectors of Higher Education, Finance & Banking, Vocation Education, Technology Innovation and Design & Marketing. With demonstrated strengths in the implementation and facilitation of blended learning solutions in both face-to-face and online delivery, complemented by a strong graphic design background, I pride myself on my adaptability, professionalism, and ability to juggle multiple priorities.

Henry Leung worked as a senior analyst at BT Financial Group, Deutsche Bank and Commonwealth Securities before joining the University. In the process, he has gained extensive knowledge and practical experience in the engineering of large scale trading and dealing systems covering foreign exchange, equities, fixed income and derivatives products. He graduated from the University with first class honours in Electrical Engineering and Commerce (major in finance and economics) and successively completed a Masters of Business in Finance at the University of Technology, Sydney. Henry was a recipient of the Faculty of Economics and Business Research Scholarship.

She has received Group, Vice Chancellor and University awards for Innovation and Excellence in Teaching and a National Citation for Outstanding Contributions to Student Learning in recognition of the impactful Teaching & Learning projects she has led to completion. Danielle's areas of expertise include authentic oral assessment, academic integrity, learning loss and curriculum alignment.

Dr Vanessa Loh joined the University of Sydney Business School in 2017 as an education-focused academic responsible for co-designing the award-winning core undergraduate unit BUSS2000. As a Lecturer in Work and Organisational Studies since 2019, her PhD research on individual differences in learning has informed her students-as-partners approach, which provides opportunities for students to explore, individualise and co-create their own learning in ways that are most relevant to them within a structured learning environment. Her dedication to high-quality, student-focused teaching has resulted in repeat nominations for the Wayne Lonergan Outstanding Teaching Award every year since 2019, and Unit of Study Student Survey Awards for Teaching since 2021.

Danilo is a Senior Lecturer in Finance (Education Focused) at the University of Sydney Business School. He has previously held academic appointments at the University of Queensland and Australian Institute of Business. In finance, Danilo's research predominantly focuses on financial crises and the impact of government intervention in financial markets; in education, Danilo has been studying the role of machine learning in the provision of efficient feedback and the use of mind maps in online learning. His research has been published in The International Review of Economics and Finance and the Journal of Financial Economic Policy, among others.

Simon is teaching focussed academic in the Discipline of Business Analytics at USBS, who lectures in Decision Making, Operations and Project Management. Prior to teaching he spent 20 years in industry, firstly in consulting and then in construction and logistics. He is an alumnus of both UNSW and Macquarie University with degrees in Finance and Business Administration. He has a teaching philosophy that seeks to make his student's learning experience both authentic and engaging with the aim of developing within them, many of the graduate qualities that USYD promotes.

Louise is a Lecturer in the Accounting, Governance and Regulation Discipline and is a financial reporting specialist. Previously Louise worked in professional accounting and commercial roles including an accounting technical manager in the banking industry. Louise is a Fellow of Advance HE, a member of Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand (CA ANZ) and has co-authored several corporate reporting textbooks and publications for CA ANZ. In recognition of Louise's interest in developing resources to enhance student readiness for the business world, Louise was the recipient of a 2021 Dean's award for FFT and a 2020 Dean's Award for Teaching.

Dr Stafford Lumsden is an award-winning online teaching and learning specialist and educational designer with over a decade of classroom experience in the higher education sector. He holds a Doctor of Philosophy from Macquarie University, a Master of Research from the same institution, and a Master of Arts in TESOL from Victoria University, Wellington, New Zealand. Stafford has worked as an Educational Designer at the University of Wollongong (2018-2023) and more recently at the University of Sydney (2023-). Stafford's latest work on social semiotic approaches to examining learning management systems (Lumsden, Djonov & Slatyer, 2023) will appear in Designing Learning with Digital Technologies (Fei & Querol Julian, Eds., 2023) later this year.

Christine Luo is the Lead Tutor of SIEN1000, the foundation unit of the new Innovation and Entrepreneurship Major/Minor. She is also an Associate Director at the NSW Department of Premier & Cabinet. She has been a Facilitator at the Chartered Accountants Australia & New Zealand (CA ANZ) since 2018, teaching Management Accounting, Tax and Ethics & Business. She recently became a co-author and contributor to the CA ANZ elective "Sustainability for Accountants."

Dr. Hamish Malloch commenced as a lecturer at the University of Sydney in 2009 and received his PhD from the same institution in 2011. Hamish's PhD involved the valuation of exotic options called "passport options" and this work has subsequently been published in the high quality international journal Quantitative Finance. Hamish's research interests lie in the field of mathematical/quantitative finance. Specifically, he is interested in theoretical models of derivative valuation and asset allocation and the empirical application of such models.

As a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (SFHEA), and certified HEA accreditor, Robyn is a USBS Lecturer in Academic Development and Leadership, having recently moved from the USYD DVC (Education) portfolio. She is currently coordinating the Open Learning unit 'Succeeding in a post-crisis world' where the student cohort draws from all USYD faculty, and also coordinates the Tutor Development Program – Engaged Learning in Tutorial Environments (ELiTE) as well as being the USBS central port of call for HEA fellowships. With her background in Leadership, Marketing and Business she has taught across USBS disciplines, in undergraduate/postgraduate courses, and within the DVC-E, Robyn taught into the USYD Modular Professional Learning Framework (MPLF) and coordinated the foundation and capstone units for the USYD GradCert in Educational Studies (Higher Education). Her current research focus investigates how academics develop their teaching practice in disrupted learning environments, such as COVID-19, and how we can develop learning environments for experienced academics to 'organically' develop their teaching practice.
Prior to academia, Robyn had considerable international marketing/education corporate experience predominantly in Pharmaceuticals and not-for profit organizations.

Anastasios Panagiotelis is an Associate Professor of Business Analytics at the University of Sydney Business School. He is also a Director of the International Institute of Forecasters. His work lies in the intersection of business analytics, statistics and econometrics. He conducts research on the development of novel statistical methodology and its application to large scale datasets in energy, macroeconomics and online retail. He led the Australian Research Council Discovery Project "Macroeconomic Forecasting in a Big Data World". This project saw the launch of www.ausmacrodata.org, a website that enables researchers to easily search for and download data on over 40,000 Australian macroeconomic variables. Anastasios received his PhD from the University of Sydney.

Corina was also part of the team that designed the first Multidisciplinary Major in Innovation and Entrepreneurship. She was successful in receiving educational innovation grants and was awarded the Vice Chancellor Award for Outstanding Educational Engagement and Innovation and Wayne Lonergan Award for Outstanding Teaching.

Abdul's research area focuses on examining how different technologies influence the adoption, reporting of and the dissemination of social and environmental by organisations. Abdul has co-authored two academic books and a case study. He teaches across both the undergraduate and postgraduate programs. Associate Professor Ranjit Voola spent all his childhood watching his parents (gynaecologist and surgeon) providing subsidized and/or free treatment to the poorest of the poor in a non-profit hospital in India. This experience provided unique insights into the lived realities of the poor and created a desire to address some of the vulnerabilities the poor confront daily. Furthermore, as a Kidney Transplant Recipient from a live donor, the relentless nature of the disease as well as the kindness of the donor, has provided Ranjit with a lived experience of vulnerability and kindness. These experiences have shaped the type of academic he wants to be, an academic whose research, teaching and engagement attempt to make lives better, by reimagining the purpose of for-profit firms.
